My Thoughts

Twists and turns paired with a Hawaiian setting make this book really wonderful!  The descriptions of the setting are well written and made me wish I was in Maui while reading it!  I had a hard time putting the book down, as I was eager to find the killer along with Peter and Lisa.  Peter is a little irritating at first (as he should be for the story to work), but I did like his growth both for his character and in his relationship.  I liked that his change in character occurred realistically and not overnight.  The suspense kept me on my toes and I had a hard time predicting the twists the story took along the way.  The flow is easy to read with shorter chapters and alternating points of view.  I am hoping there is a sequel as there was a bit left unfinished.  Definitely recommended to those who love suspense!

The Paris Betrayal by James R. Hannibal

Company spy Ben Calix finds his world unraveling when a mission goes sour in Rome and he returns to Paris only to discover that his cover is blown.  Ben is forced to go on the run with only his obnoxious neighbor and her dog as companions, both of whom he reluctantly takes with him after they get involved as he flees.  To make matters worse, the Company thinks Ben is the one who turned against them and they are leaving him in the dark when it comes to details about catching a bioterrorist.  Ben must rely on all of his training to catch the villain before it is too late.

What a thrilling ride!  This book is exciting from beginning to end.  I liked how the action kept the plot moving and didn’t slow down one bit.  The book definitely held my attention and I had a hard time putting it down.  I found Ben an easy character to like and I enjoyed reading the book from his perspective.  The dialogue and characters’ interactions felt natural and were well woven among the action.  There were some twists that I did not expect and I found myself surprised by more than one part of the story.  I enjoyed this novel and look forward to more by this author!

Chasing the White Lion by James R. Hannibal

Chasing the White Lion book cover

Talia Inger is not pleased to be in close contact with the assassin who killed her father, but she needs his help with infiltrating the crowd sourced crime syndicate and rescue some refugee children.  The crime boss, the White Lion, is determined to destroy Talia and her team, forcing Talia to place more trust in the assassin.  Danger closes in on every side and Talia realizes that if she does not succeed, it may cost her life.

There is no denying that this author is a talented writer and pens complex and creative stories!  I liked the intricate plot and fascinating subjects in this story.  It was great to read about a strong, intelligent female lead that is passionate about injustices of refugee children.  It is really commendable that the author highlights the good work of the Compassional International organization as well.  I was sometimes lost in the technical and complicated topics of the story, which was a little distracting from the plot.  And I definitely recommend reading this series in order.  However, I enjoyed the suspense in this novel and the story kept my attention.  I recommend this book!

The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal

The Gryphon Heist book cover.jpeg

Talia Inger has undergone a lot of training to reach her position as a field operative for the CIA. So when she gets assigned to the department in Eastern Europe known as only as “Other,” she is disappointed not be in Moscow as she hoped.  She teams up with civilian Adam Tyler to research strategies to access the Gryphon, a data vault that hovers high in the mesosphere.  But Talia and Adam are not the only ones interested in the Gryphon and danger lurks around every corner.

Fast paced action from page one!  This book reminds me of an action movie, like Jason Bourne, with top government secrets, foreign espionage, and dangerous fight scenes.  The bad guy is not who I thought it was at first and the suspense kept me glued to the pages until the conclusion to the story.  I liked that the author took time to craft depth to the story behind the action too, with topics such as forgiveness and redemption.  It takes a little bit for everything to start coming together in the story, but when it does, it is hard to put down!  I really enjoyed this contemporary suspense and recommend it!  I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
