Ensnared by Jody Hedlund

About the Book

Mikaela likes being nursemaid to her two young charges, but she dislikes the Earl of Likness for his mean spirit.  She is grateful to reconnect with the Earl’s brother, Gunnar, who returns home in search of the sacred chalice in hopes of healing the queen.  Gunnar soon realizes his brother may be holding a secret regarding the chalice, but the truth is he is also holding a secret—he has always loved Mikaela.  Danger begins to close in on Gunnar and Mikaela, who must fight against the Hardanger Forest and fight to survive.

Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she’s learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!).

When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.

My Thoughts

Although every book she writes is amazing, Ensnared might be my favorite of the Knights of Brethren series so far!  The characters are engaging, the romance is endearing, and the plot is enchanting.  I found it easy to become invested in the story almost immediately and had no trouble ignoring sleep in pursuit of knowing what came next in the story.  I liked how creative this story truly is with medieval knights, lovely maidens, and dangerous forests and villains.  I am always impressed that Jody Hedlund can continue to come up with such unique storylines with memorable characters.  I really liked the romance between Mikaela and Gunnar and enjoyed reading how their relationship grew in the story; in fact, childhood best friends to lovers just happens to be one of my favorite love tropes!  I do recommend reading this series in order as I think the story builds on previous books.  I am so excited to read the next book in the series!  Highly recommended!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.  Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
