Elysium Tide by James R. Hannibal

About the Book

Dr. Peter Chesterfield is smart and successful, but his temper can sometimes get out of hand.  He is sent by his boss to a work conference at Elysium Grand on the island of Maui for a bit of a break.  However, his trip suddenly turns sour when he discovers a woman with a skull fracture while strolling on the beach late one night.  After her death, he becomes obsessed with finding her killer, putting him directly in the path of detective Lisa Kealoha, who gets annoyed at his constant presence.  But things in the case soon heat up and Lisa and Peter must work together to solve the puzzle before it is too late.

My Thoughts

Twists and turns paired with a Hawaiian setting make this book really wonderful!  The descriptions of the setting are well written and made me wish I was in Maui while reading it!  I had a hard time putting the book down, as I was eager to find the killer along with Peter and Lisa.  Peter is a little irritating at first (as he should be for the story to work), but I did like his growth both for his character and in his relationship.  I liked that his change in character occurred realistically and not overnight.  The suspense kept me on my toes and I had a hard time predicting the twists the story took along the way.  The flow is easy to read with shorter chapters and alternating points of view.  I am hoping there is a sequel as there was a bit left unfinished.  Definitely recommended to those who love suspense!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing.  Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
